Meet me at the Oasis
The CB Train Club has begun a project of building Kato Mini-Dioramas. These are simple laser cut kits that create modules that are about 5 inches long that can be linked together to form a club layout for displays at community events. Basic modules can be had for little money and can be assembled at your kitchen table. the basic module is illustrated below. They come in straight or curved and can be linked together using the Kato Unitrack connections.
The basic kit includes the base platform and track section. All that is needed is some wood glue. All the pieces are precut and interlock with tabs. Just put a drop of glue on each and assemble. In a matter of minutes, you can have module ready.
Once the basic module is done, then the fun begins. Let your imagination go wild and add whatever landscaping or decoration your heart desires. The lay of the land can be modified with craft foam, modeling clay, or carved styrofoam. You can use almost anything to finish these, including miniature figures, small toys, buttons, or other found objects, or you can use modeling supplies such as flocking, lichen, twigs, and miniature trees. You can build things with toothpicks, matchsticks, or other items, letting your imagination be your guide.
The project was started in May and so far the CB Train Club has built 10 modules and more are on the way. The variety in these modules is amazing. If you look closely, you will see bigfoot, a protesting cow, moonshiners, winter sports enthusiasts, sun worshipers, and much more. Take a look at some of the modules created by club members below:

Coastal Serenity
There are many more and more getting finished each day. Here is the current set:
The club hopes to use these to promote model railroading at local events and in the schools as part of a STEAM program. Many aspects of model railroading are STEAM related from bridges, structures, landscapes, transportation, and nature, to electrical and artistry. It can be a great and fun learning tool.
